The history of the Károly Róbert Campus

1871: The idea of ​​higher education with an agricultural focus in Gyöngyös was raised. The leaders of the Town Economic Association initiated the establishment of a viticulture and oenology focused university. It could not be realized without support. 

1962: Higher-level professional education began in Gyöngyös with training in viticulture and winemaking. 

1972-1976: The institution functioned as a Faculty of the University of Horticulture. It trained professionals in the fields of viticulture-oenology, vegetable production and plant production. 

1976: The institution became part of the University of Agricultural Sciences in Gödöllő, which resulted in a profile change: the viticulture and winemaking, vegetable production and plant production courses were discontinued and education in plant management, plant production, animal husbandry and horticulture began. 

1987: The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences was established at the Gödöllő University of Agricultural Sciences. The college faculty in Gyöngyös was transformed into the Institute of Business Administration and Industrial Engineering. Subjects in the field of economics were  given more emphasis.  

1989: The institute was the first in Hungary to be allowed to launch an experimental correspondence course as the predecessor of today's distance learning. 

1993-1999: The Institution operated as the Faculty of Agriculture of the Gödöllő University of Agricultural Sciences. 

2000 - August, 2003: The institution operated as the Faculty of Economics and Agriculture of Szent István University. 

September 1st, 2003: The Parliament declared the institution an independent higher education establishment called Károly Róbert College. 

2005-2008: The expansion and renovation of the Károly Róbert College (reconstruction and expansion of the main building, expansion and renovation of the library, conversion of the old dormitory building) took place.  

July 1st, 2016. – July 31st, 2020: The Eszterházy Károly University was founded by the merger of Eszterházy Károly College and Károly Róbert College. 

August 1st, 2020: An integrated, multi-campus and multi-disciplinary university named Szent István University was established. The Szent István University, the Kaposvár University, the Georgikon Faculty of Pannon University and the Károly Róbert Campus of Eszterházy Károly University were united. The aim of the change in institutional structure was to establish the largest university in Hungary with an agricultural focus. 

February 1st, 2021: As a result of the 2020 mergers, the Károly Róbert Campus in Gyöngyös, as a campus of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Gödöllő, has provided outstanding professional educational services in the fields of economic sciences, agriculture and IT.
