BACHELOR PROGRAMMES (BA)
TOURISM AND CATERING (BA)
The general objectives of the programme
The objective is to train professionals who, in addition to their general economic knowledge, have a high-level understanding of tourism and are proficient in at least two foreign languages. Furthermore, they acquire sufficient knowledge to continue their studies in the second cycle of higher education and pursue an MA course.
What will you learn?
You will meet people during their free time when they have the opportunity to explore, relax, and create experiences. Time for ourselves is often scarce, making it all the more valuable. A good host ensures that guests feel at home anywhere in the world. The world is all around us!
In the field of tourism and catering, which is part of economic sciences, you will study economics, methodology, and business, including mathematics, statistics, information technology, micro- and macroeconomics, international economics, finance, business economics, business law, marketing, accounting, management, business communication, business language, environmental economics, and basic business studies.
You will also cover fundamental social sciences, such as European Union studies, general and economic law, economic history, and sociology.
In addition, you will gain knowledge in tourism and hospitality, including tourism systems, hospitality management, accommodation, tour operations, tourism resources, administrative and municipal aspects of tourism, tourism marketing, tourism products, tourism enterprises, hospitality organisation and management, and international economic relations. Foreign language proficiency is also an essential part of the programme. In the fifth semester, you will have the opportunity to choose a specialisation.
The internship, as defined in the curriculum of the institution of higher education, consists of two semesters of practical training at a tourism or hospitality enterprise, or in the classroom or training hotel of the institution. One semester may be completed as a practice-oriented, part-time training abroad, organised within the framework of an agreement between Hungarian and foreign higher education institutions.
What can you do with this qualification?
As an economist with a bachelor's degree in tourism and catering, you will provide accommodation and other services to guests, organise trips, and coordinate tourism activities. You will search for, arrange, and sell accommodation, as well as handle reservations. Additionally, you will be responsible for organising and providing local tourist information, as well as managing services and events in accommodation facilities, tourist centres, sports venues, and cultural institutions.
To succeed in this field, creativity and strong foreign language skills are essential, as you will liaise with key clients and establish offices or business interests abroad. Some less visible but equally important responsibilities include supervising security measures, managing accounting and procurement activities, and preparing budgets, reports, proposals, and presentations.
